“Look at the word responsibility – ‘response-ability’ – the ability to choose your response. Highly proactive people recognize that responsibility.” – Stephen Covey
As quoted by Stephen Covey the ‘response-ability’ is in our hands. We have the right and ability to choose what is best for ourselves. This expresses that external dependability should be eliminated by internal dependability.
While driving, wearing your seatbelt is a golden rule. It is a safety measure for an unforeseen circumstance, such as an accident. This does not mean that an accident is bound to happen every time you drive, does it?
Wearing your seatbelt, without fail, is a way of always being prepared. Even with the sudden use of brakes, you are secured by your seat belt, keeping you in a seated position and holding you back from any unfortunate impact with the dashboard. Proactively wearing your seatbelt can mitigate or eliminate the possibility of any physical injury to your own self.
Now remind yourself that you are responsible for keeping your mind as safe as your body. Proactively seeking therapy is you wearing your seatbelt for maximum preparedness, so as to protect and help your mind before and during an unforeseen circumstance.
For years we have been conditioned to seek therapy as a ‘last resort.’ We have been told constantly that the point at which one has to consult a psychologist is when one is in a full-blown crisis situation. But, this is an unhealthy perspective of living. We are here to burst the bubble and tell you that there is no particular point or degree of crisis at which you have to seek therapy. The nature of therapy is very proactive and it extends into possibilities such as being prepared, in ADVANCE, for lifes’ stressors, obstacles or even crises.
We need to shift our perspective from being reactive to proactive. Being aware of our mental state and working on it actively is the only assured way to transition from simply living to thrive every day.
Referring to the quote, in the beginning, proactive people recognise their ability to choose their response. In conclusion, we would urge you to go through our Instagram post and choose your response. Think about the signs which you may feel connected to and seek therapy if you want to. Do not wait for the worst to happen. Being proactive about your mental health is the only perspective that should matter to you.
