Group Therapy

Group Therapy can be an excellent way to seek mental health assistance as it offers numerous benefits. Groups differ in their purpose, focus, nature, kind, how they operate and in other aspects.

Although one on one therapy with a trained professional has it’s own advantages, here are some unique benefits that group therapy offers.

I am currently accepting applications and screening participants for the below Groups:

Self-Acceptance: (Online at the moment)

Wouldn’t it be nice to accept ourself for who we are? Most of us struggle with accepting ourselves. This is a result of various known and unknown factors. Judgement, comparison, rejection are commonly occurring themes in our life. Alongside this, we may also be unclear of our identity and values, in turn affecting our confidence and how we present in the world.

This will be a semi-structured group, where we will discuss various themes surrounding self-acceptance, understanding why we struggle with it, how it impacts us, the conditions that shape our thinking of ourselves. We will work through emotions like guilt, shame, anxiety which impede our self- acceptance. We will also put it into perspectives of body image, career, relationships and its effects on confidence, achieving our goals and dreams.

This group will be a non-judgemental space to practice being our genuine, authentic selves. Group members will engage in discussions, sharing and empathizing with similar and different experiences in an open, honest, unmasked way.

It will be a great place to form genuine authentic, healthy relationships and communication patterns within the group.

Duration of this Group: 12 weeks (once per week)

Currently taking in new clients for a group commencing on 19th July, Tuesdays 7:15-8:15pm.

Closed Group: This group will be a closed group. This means that the same participants will be a consistent part of the group from start to end. No new members get added mid-way, no members leave the group mid-way. The reason for this is because having a closed group enhances mutual trust and understanding between group members, thus increasing the benefits. This means that the payment will be made upfront as a 12 week commitment.

Group size: 6-9 persons only to ensure everyone gets individualized learning and opportunities for engagement within the group.

Cost of the group therapy: Rs. 6000/- to Rs. 6500/- per participant for the entire 12 session duration.

Assertiveness Training- Skills in Practice: (Online at the moment)

This group is already currently underway, but I am accepting applications for a new batch. This group focuses on building skills on being assertive and communicating assertively. Before you can learn to be assertive, it is  helpful to understand what lead to us becoming unassertive and what prevents us from being assertive now. We also work on understanding and changing the unhelpful thought processes that inhibit assertion. All of this then enables us to actually put into practice the skills we’ll learn in being assertive and communicating in an assertive way.

This group is very interactive and based on mutual discussion. We use directive activities, questions, worksheets, exercises and homework to make it an engaging and sustained learning process for all involved. This group is for you if this is a new concept for you or if you’ve been struggling with this and would like to begin working on this, or if you’d simply like to get started on this journey, if you haven’t had any assistance with assertiveness before.

Duration of this Group: 6 weeks (once per week)

Advanced Skills in Assertiveness: (Online at the moment)

In this group, we’ll focus on advancing our knowledge and use of assertion and apply it in more specific situations and circumstances. This group builds on the knowledge you may have gained in the group on Assertive Training – Skills in Practice (Above), or if you’d like to build on your basic assertive learning from individual therapy with me, or if you’d like to brush up on and revise your learnings on assertiveness and use them in a group setting for more practice.

This group is very interactive and based on mutual discussion. We use directive activities, questions, worksheets, exercises and homework to make it an engaging and sustained learning process for all involved. This group is for you to deepen your understanding and improve your assertive skills.

Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy: (Online at the moment)

This group is focused on assisting participants with emotional behavioural, and psychological distress, to work toward undisturbing themselves. This will also help you move quickly toward problem-solving and using the skills you already possess in an effective way which may be getting blocked by the disturbance you face. This group will facilitate this journey by employing REBT or Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy. REBT posits that our emotional disturbances are caused largely by our attitudes toward the adversities we face, not just the presence of adversity itself. Thus, your journey in this group will focus on uncovering these unhelpful attitudes and dispute them to imbibe more helpful attitudes.

This group involves an introduction to REBT by the group facilitator and how it is used with numerous difficult emotions. After that, it will be interactive and based on mutual discussion. We use analogies, metaphors, directive activities, questions, worksheets, exercises and homework to make it an engaging and sustained learning process for all involved. You will get a lot of opportunities to directly apply your learnings to your own problems to deal directly with your distress and actively work on it.

The group can help you sustain your learnings and help you better apply your knowledge and therapeutic skills to your life.
