Therapeutic Approach

In my sessions, I may primarily lean on to a psychoanalytic approach. This approach helps explore an individual’s unconscious mind and its influence on one’s thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

To be specific, within the psychoanalytic approach I apply the psychoanalytic theory of Transactional Analysis (TA) developed by Eric Berne during the 1950s. It is a form of modern psychology where the sessions are designed to explore one’s personality, interactions and how it is shaped by experiences from the past (particularly those stemming from Childhood) which further helps the client and the therapist to work towards the client’s personal growth and personal change. Transactional Analysis can be applied as a brief and solution-focused approach as well as an effective long-term therapy.

However, stemming from a person-centred stance, I also tend to use an eclectic approach for therapy, where, through the use of micro-skills I selectively apply techniques from a variety of approaches that will best fit your needs.

My client and I will be approaching the concern presented through a collaborative & exploratory conversation and approach in which both the therapist and the client work together to make decisions about how to best proceed with the treatment and self-work. We will be functioning through the key principles of collaboration, accountability, integrity and mutual respect.

I believe that, with the right support, every challenge brings an opportunity for you to uncover hidden resources present within yourselves. This in turn enables you to build on your resilience and growth helping you design to lead a driven life.

‘When we tackle obstacles, we find hidden reserves of courage and resilience we did not know we had. And it is only when we are faced with failure do [sic] we realise that these resources were always there within us. We only need to find them and move on with our lives.’

A. P. J. Abdul Kalam 11th President of India.
